prospecting for gold in Hope Creek, North of Chatanika, a small
settlement north of Fairbanks. A single mass weighing just 9.83Kg
is all that has been found of this rare amphoterite. It was
initially cut into quarters lengthwise of approximately equal weights.
Three of these specimens are in private collections. The 4th specimen
initially weighed 2500.0 grams but donations and cut loss reduced the
total amount of material for sale to less than 2000.0 grams. Hope Creek
is also the only stone meteorite from Alaska that is available on the
market. This meteorite is weathered although cut sections still reveal
metal flake and an interesting matrix.
